We released this print to celebrate 70 years of the creation of the Nation Health Service in the UK. Launched in 1948 by Aneurin Bevan, the health secretary, at Park Hospital in Manchester it was the climax of a hugely ambitious plan to bring good healthcare to all. This quote comes from his later book, In Place of Fear, published in 1952, and encapsulates the guiding principles of the NHS on it’s 70th anniversary
Composed from a mixture of original woodblock and lead type and printed in three shades of NHS blue, by hand on our Jardine treadle platen printing press onto GFSmith 270gsm Pristine White Colorplan.
As all our work is produced by hand, each impression is unique and as such, there will be minor variations from card to card. The designs are composed from original, antique woodblock and lead type and as such we do not deboss heavily into the card stock as this permanently damages the type.
